First, Sing! is Edington Arts’ new outreach project which we are running with years 5 and 6 of both Bratton and Great Cheverell Primary Schools. This year is its first; we intend for it to be initially a three-year rolling programme, and we’ll see how far that takes it.

We all know how music tuition in schools has fallen victim to successive budget cuts, and that the cost of living is making private lessons and instruments themselves increasingly out of reach for very many of our children.  But every child already has an instrument – their voice – which costs them nothing, and we are encouraged by the fact that both Bratton and Great Cheverell schools have enthusiastic teachers who want to do more.

So we’re going to help.

With the additional support of the Edington Festival, we have created a project which will provide five 45 minute weekly sessions in each school from an expert singing coach and current member of the festival, leading to a combined dress rehearsal and performance of the excellent children’s cantata by Michael Flanders and Joesph Horowitz – Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo.

The first performance will take place in Edington Priory Church towards the end of the Spring Term 2025. We’ll keep you up to date with how it’s going, but in the mean time…..

WE NEED YOUR VOTE!

We have entered the Community Fund competition run by TicketSource in the hope of winning a prize which will go towards some of the costs associated with this project.  Whether it gets through to the final judging round will depend entirely on how many votes of support we can muster from our friends, families, supporters, and anyone else we can think of.

Voting closes at midnight on Sunday June 2nd.

Follow this link to register your vote, and share it with as many people as you can think of.
