An evening of J.S.Bach: Dialogus1685

J.S.Bach: revered and celebrated in equal measure as possibly the greatest composer of all time.  Among his massive output over a long life – 1128 ;works before he died in 1750 aged 65 – were a series of instrumental sonatas for harpsichord and violin, composed late in his career.  Each has a distinct character, are relatively short in duration, and are distinguished by the equal partnership of the two instruments, full to the brim with sublime melody, textural variety, virtuosity and harmonic depth.

Our early music specialists, Andrew Arthur (harpsichord) and Rachel Stroud (baroque violin) formed their duo specially to explore Bach’s conversations between the two instruments. Their programme includes other harpsichord/violin pieces,  and we will be privileged to enjoy a wonderful evening of pure Bach, full of sublime melody, textural variety, virtuosity and harmonic depth.
