Rossano Sportiello

Friday 1st May 2015

Time 7.30pm

A return visit by this wonderful jazz pianist.

It was in August 2004 that Rossano burst upon the British jazz scene when he appeared in Nairn, Brecon, Woking and Eastleigh as part of the August round of festivals.  The acknowledged “giant” of stride piano, Ralph Sutton, had died not long before and Rossano, from Milan, seemed to be an obvious choice to step into his shoes.  He had appeared with Dan Barrett at Ascona in 2002 and was invited to the Arbors Festival in 2003.  Thus, he arrived with a good pedigree.  Rossano can play in any style but excels at  “stride”.  He admits that Ralph Sutton and Dave McKenna are his heroes but he is not a slavish copyist and his on stage persona delights everyone.

Tickets are £12, no concessions. Phone Maggie Atterbury on 01380 830452 for more information.
