The De Beauvoir Trio

Saturday 18th March

Time 2.30pm

Our first concert of 2023 is an afternoon of music for violin, cello and piano from the very special De Beauvoir Trio.  This performance is the latest in our association with IMS-Prussia Cove, the international musicians’ masterclasses which attract the best young musicians from all over the world for a week of tuition and performance with the world’s best instrumentalists. The trio were selected in 2022 and have already made their mark on the concert stage around the UK and abroad.

Their programme reflects the girls’ curiosity and appreciation of a wide range of piano trio repertoire, combining the ‘late, great, white, male’ colossi of Beethoven and Dvorak with music which many of us may never have come across, by Gabriela Lena Frank and Lili Boulanger. Frank is a mixed race Peruvian American who is a remarkable woman in her own right, as well as a composer of wonderfully tuneful music often rooted in her Peruvian culture.  Lili Boulanger was a child prodigy who died at the tragically early age of 24 in 1918 having already composed works which rank her among the greats of the 20th century.

The concert will be followed by tea and cake, and a chance to chat with the girls.
