The Marici Saxophone Quartet
Saturday 24th September
This lively, engaging and innovative quartet first played for us in 2016, a concert which was hugely enjoyed – and in 2020 they celebrated ten years together. In the meantime they have recorded several CDs, been featured on BBC Radio 3, performed in Croatia, Italy, Belgium, France and China, and baritone sax player Josie has had her compositions featured as part of International Women’s Day.
Their programmes include works by Michael Nyman, Kurt Weill, James Whitbourn and Peter Maxwell Davies but also classical music by the likes of Elgar, Handel and Piazolla; they have sourced and arranged some beautiful folk music from Scotland, Native America, the Balkans and China, and there is always at least one composition by Josie.
This will be a fun evening of mostly lighter fare, beautifully and skilfully played by four unique and supremely talented musicians who came together originally out of a craving for collective creativity.
You can hear some of their music here.
