The Sanctuary Project
Saturday 8th March
Time 7.30pm
The sounds of Christian’s chorister days as a member of his local church choir in Knaresbrough, North Yorkshire, are deeply ingrained in the music which he composes for the saxophone, the instrument he swapped for the clarinet in his late teens. After several years playing jazz saxophone, he began to search for a more emotionally intense, ethereal sound from his soprano and alto saxes, influenced by classical recordings of works like Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and choral music.
The result is The Sanctuary Project, his own musical sanctuary where he could explore his own sound without the pressure of external factors. It is an ongoing journey now undertaken with close music friends and colleagues. Christian will come to Edington with organist Richard Pinel, former Director of the Edington Music Festival and a well-known organ recitalist and recording artist; Rosanna Wicks, currently a Music Scholar at Lancing College, and percussionist Ryan Hepburn, percussion teacher at The Purcell School of Music.
