Advent Concert: Choir of Merton College Oxford

Saturday 10th December

Time 7.30pm

Benjamin Nicholas returns to Edington Priory Church with his superb mixed voice chapel choir.  His was the first Advent Concert we hosted back in 2015; since then under his direction successive generations of choral scholars have made Merton one of the pre-eminent Oxbridge chapel choirs. Numerous prestigious broadcasts, recordings and recitals have all been positively reviewed.

They were due to sing for us in 2021, and when this concert was cancelled due to the pandemic restrictions, the choir recorded a special choral offering just for us to view on YouTube.  How much more wonderful to have them sing to us in person in the superb acoustic of the Priory Church!

The programme will follow the established pattern our Advent concerts, with beautiful music for both Advent and Christmas, with our traditional mulled wine and mince pies in the interval.  We will hear organ pieces played by Merton’s two Organ Scholars, Owen Chan and Francois Cloete, and music by, among others, Byrd, Chilcott, Howells, McDowall, Panufnik, Part, Rutter, Tavener and Walton.  This will be a fabulous programme – full details as and when we have them.

Please note, as of November 14th, we only have £10 tickets remaining, and these are going fast.  So don’t delay!

£20/£15/£10; Edington Angels’ discount of 10%, 18 and under free.
